A Mom’s Love
Our slogan is Fashion with a Splash and each week when we write our blog, we interject a splash of something - Caring, Happiness, etc, but with this week’s topic, a splash is just not enough. A mom’s love is more like an overflowing bucket! With Mother’s Day just a few days away, it seems like the perfect time to pay tribute to all these amazing women who give their heart and soul to enrich and nurture the next generation!
The love between a mother and child is one of the most beautiful displays of love and kindness in this world. We’ve all seen a new mother beaming with so much love and admiration as she coddles her newborn baby. The effort required to care for a baby is enormous and more often than not it comes with sleepless nights, a transformed body from pregnancy and a whole new list of to dos like changing diapers and trying to figure out what will make the crying and burping up stop. Let’s not even talk about the collicy baby or any additional challenges. Through the exhaustion and struggles, a mother overcomes and feels an overwhelming bond and love when she sees her newborn. It doesn’t stop there, the next 18 years (at least) will be marked with laundry, dishes, meal management, taxi services, teaching, emergency medical services, cheerleading and that barely scratches the surface. There will certainly be some frustration and grumbling along the way, after all moms are human, but she wouldn’t trade it in for all the riches in the world because there is an unfathomable love she has for her child.

The complexity of a mother’s love is nearly mystical - it is beautiful and pure. There is power and strength in the confidence that a mother poseses to protect her children - even when she doesn’t have confidence for herself. There is the wisdom a mother-passes onto her child whether it be through her teachings or actions. There is comfort and warmth in a mother’s loving arms. And generally so much of this was taught and passed down from her mother.

A mom’s work is often taken for granted. She can make the best meal you’ve ever had and never get a tip. She can make sure there is always milk in the fridge and never thinks it should be any other way. She can go to work all day to support the family and still come home to greet you with a smile. She is there for you to put that bandaid on, help you with homework, or lift you up when you are down, and more often than not, it is expected more than appreciated! A mom doesn’t do any of this for praise or acknowledgement she does it because of love!
I remember when I was a child and feeling such an overwhelming love for my mom. I subconsciously realized that no matter what I did, she would be there for me. As much as I felt that, I didn’t always appreciate it. Now that I am a mom, I can attest to the fact that I would move mountains for my kids. Even in their teenage years, when they have an answer for everything and ‘know way more than I do’, I cherish every moment with them. I am thrilled for them when they are happy, and my heart breaks for them with every challenge they have to go through.
On Sunday, when we stop to honor, love and thank our moms on Mother’s Day, I say let’s not make it a once a year thing! Let’s incorporate appreciation for our moms more regularly. I challenge you to stop and thank your mom. Surprise her - write her a note, give her a hug, go for a walk together, give her some flowers or have a cup of coffee with her.
Don’t just stop with your own mom. If you have a daughter that is a mom or if you have a group of mom friends, go treat yourself to something special - The Lord knows you deserve it! If your wife is a mom, let her know how much you appreciate all that she does for your family. If you know a single mom, regardless of your relationship, extend a kind word or treat her to a night off. We all need to be boosted up with kind words and appreciation - it is our fuel - it keeps us going and ultimately we will pass that onto our children!
