Cinco de Mayo is almost here - a fun day to pour yourself a tasty margarita, celebrate with some friends and enjoy the tastes of Mexico! Whether you are looking for some family fun or activities for adults only, we have you covered. We love the idea of celebrating at your favorite local Mexican restaurant so you can support those restaurants that have been so crushed this past year, but we get it if you are still not feeling comfortable eating at restaurants. We have some ideas so you can still have the flair and feel of Mexico in your own space and still enjoy your Mexican culinary favorites. So sit back, relax and raise your glass as you take a read through some of our Fun Ways to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year.
Decorate the house- Turn your humble abode into a festive colorful celebration… If you have little ones get them involved too. The theme is simple-just make it colorful and fun! Order some Papel Picado (Mexican cutting paper) and simply fold the paper and make different cuts (very similar to making snowflakes) and then just open the paper, put it on a string and hang them throughout the house. Super easy and fun. Get really festive and throw on some Mariachi music, hang the pinata and of course, enjoy the Mexican feast!
Take it to the Park- Trying to avoid crowds but want something fun and festive to do? Grab your crew and head to the park for an afternoon celebration. Simply pack your Portovino beverage tote filled with your favorite Mexican beverage of choice, along with a picnic blanket, sunglasses and cell with bluetooth speaker so you can get your Mexican music on. Grab that Mexican ‘to go’ order or pack some of your own Mexican food favorites and have yourself an outdoor fiesta!
Make it a Mexican Fiesta- Like we mentioned, you can’t celebrate this fun Mexican holiday without the tastes of Mexico, right? You can choose to order take out (or delivery) from your favorite Mexican restaurant (we love the idea of supporting your local restaurant) or expand your cooking skills and learn some new dishes. Get the whole family involved as you whip up some homemade beef tamales with a dirty bean dip and some guacamole dip . And don’t forget the chips. For beverages, Margaritas are a definite favorite around here, but you can also grab some traditional Mexican beers that are available everywhere or if you are looking for some Virgin drinks for the kids, try making Horchata, a popular cinnamon and rice drink, or some traditional glass bottle Mexican Coke products.
Whatever you choose, have some fun and don’t forget to crank up that Mexican music - Happy Cinco de Mayo
